Come! And run the Run For Your Momma Half Marathon/Half Marathon Relay/5kon a fun and challenging course of pavement and country roads (gravel/dirt). The course features a variety of both hills and flat lands! The run will take you into the Norman Rockwell setting of the City of Marion. You will wind around the popular family destination of Marion County Lake with its commemorative CCC workers statue, and beautiful examples of the classic hand laid stonework of the 1930s. Experience pastoral scenes of prairie, growing crops, and cattle grazing all while being treated to the melody of native Kansas’s birds. Watch for them perched on fences as you breeze by!
The Race to the Center is a unique race with a unique course! The entire 13.1 mile route is on unpaved country roads. Enjoy the natural beauty of the Kansas prairie as you run from Smith Center to the geographical center of the contiguous United States near Lebanon. This race is certified by the USA Track and Field Association. On-site check-in will begin at the Old Dutch Mill in Smith Center starting at 6 a.m. with transportation provided to the starting point north of Smith Center. This is Kansas City’s largest and most exciting annual race and it gives runners a tour of Kansas City’s most beautiful landmarks and cool neighborhoods, including the WWI Memorial, the Sprint Center, City Hall, the Country Club Plaza, the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Brookside, Westport, the 18th & Vine Jazz District and more…
-Fireworks to kick off the race and a huge after party with live music, free food and local beer!
-More than 15 bands along the course provide a great atmosphere, and runners normally enjoy great fall weather.
-A new 10K distance option has been added for 2017, as well as a new charity component.
-Runners can ring the Garmin Celebration Gong to celebrate their new PR, their first time finishing a race, qualifying for Boston, or their first time running in the Kansas City Marathon!
-All runners will receive a Kansas City Marathon participant shirt, a finisher’s medal, free downloadable race photos and free massages at the Finish Line Festival.
Pounding the pavement is great and all, but there’s something to be said for single track. And at Randolph State Park, just a little ways north of Manhattan, Kansas, you’ll find some of the best (and most technical) single track trails in the MHK area. The fall colors and panoramic views of Tuttle Creek Lake and the Flint Hills make for a perfectly lovely romp through the woods. But with roller coaster hills, dizzying switchbacks, and sometimes rocky footing, it’s no walk in the park… and Randolph will try its best to take its revenge.
All entrants receive a soft-style long sleeve t-shirt, and all finishers get a Randolph’s Revenge tall boy pint glass… and yep, we’ll have plenty of cold drinks at the finish line to fill ’em up. We’ll also have a post-race brunch for runners: biscuits ‘n gravy, Varsity Donuts, and fresh fruit.
